Mateo is 27 months. Everyone says how much he has grown and how much older he looks. I have to agree! He is not easy to photograph. I snapped a very few shots on this chair and he said 'all done!' and jumped off.
Morning naptime is OVER. Boohoo...we are down to one afternoon nap and it is not any longer than before.
Mateo drinks a bottle of milk in the morning and before bed. It is a sort of regression to be drinking out of a bottle, but I don't mind, since it means he is drinking a lot of milk. I am not a milk drinker, so it is hard for me to force him to drink it out of a cup.
His newest word that we figured out is "Ona." To him it means Elephant (Olifant). It does not really sound like the word in either languages, but it means something to him. Some other words he has said this month are "mess" "Annie, Josh, Jesse" and I KNOW there are more, but I am falling asleep. His words for "hand, help, hat, hair" all sound the same. Oh, he says "mooi!" and the 4 word sentence, "en nog een ....." (and another ....)
We had a few rough days last week, but this week has gone better! I am sure he can sense that things are changing around here, so he is being testy as well.
I remember my nieces doing this. He talks the whole day about mama and papa. He shows what is mama's and what is papa's or tells stories of what happened (in his limited vocabulary) about us. It is very cute! Last night when I got home from class I saw that daddy hung up 2 drawings of Mateo's. He had written on it 'Ona-October 22.' This morning when Mateo woke up he went to the drawing and said, 'Papa! Ona! Mooi!' (repeat a few times...)
Oh, and what goes along with showing what is ours ('Mama shoes, papa shoes')...he says what is HIS! "Van mij!" (Mine!) This morning I was upstairs and he was downstairs alone and I could hear him screaming, "Auto van mij!" Poor kid has a lot to learn about sharing...
His eating is sporatic. One day he will eat tons and rather varied, the next day he only wants meat and fruit (his basics), the next day he will eat veggies and potatoes, but all separate, the next day he doesn't care if everything is mixed. I try not to let it bother me. I know he won't starve himself. He says "eat" if he is hungry or he helps himself to a yogurt from the fridge. It is handy that he can serve himself, but I always make him ask first and then I grant him permission.
Next month Mateo will be a big brother!
